Our late MD, Mr. Karl Fr. Ketzer, designed and installed
numerous solar water heating installations in the Western
Cape over an 11-year period. The largest, a 90 m² installation,
was installed in Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa, heating
both a swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
High solar panel costs led us to design Sonsak™,
an affordable solar panel manufactured locally from local
materials. It will be available in several sizes, either
separately, or as part of a kit consisting of a 120 liter
tank and all pipes/clamps required for installation. The
panels are currently under development.
On a sunny day the water in the tank can exceed 65°C
(149ºF). This heated water can be used directly, or
to pre-heat cold water supplying an existing geyser.
The Sonsak™ solar absorber enjoys
valid patent protection (patent pending 2011/00674).

Mains-Pressure heat exchanger:
Cold water first flows through a heat exchanger inside
the hot water tank. This raises the geyser's incoming
water temperature to a point where using cold water
from the mains can be largely avoided.
